Summary 

The Attendant Care Worker position provides quality direct support and supervision to agency clients, with the intent to assist individuals in accomplishing daily living activities, teaching individuals to live independently in community settings, and preventing or reducing hospitalizations. 

 

Essential Functions

Assists agency clients in achieving individualized treatment, recovery, and personal growth goals through delivery of quality attendant care services. 

Monitors clients’ medication compliance as prescribed by written instructions. Reports medication concerns and questions to immediate supervisor. 

Observes significant behavioral changes in clients and reports changes and concerns to immediate supervisor and the Residential Services Supervisor. 

May provide direct psychosocial group services to child clients, up to the age of 18 years of age, in an effort to teach individuals to develop appropriate behaviors and personal attitudes for successful functioning at home, school, and in the community.  

May transport individuals to and/or from various locations as required by specific work assignment. 

Maintains accurate and complete records of all client services, as defined by state licensing agencies, funding agencies, and CrossWinds standards and requirements. Submits attendant care documentation notes, timesheets, and all work-related paperwork in a timely manner and in acceptable format as determined by agency requirements. 

Attends and participates in monthly and as-needed supervision and training meetings. 

Assists in maintaining the successful operation of the residential living facilities, to include meal preparation, laundry, basic housekeeping, and assisting clients with personal hygiene skills, as required by the work assignment. 

May gather client vitals and current health information to assist clients with Med Clinic appointments, as needed. 

 

Skills & Abilities 

 

Education 

High school diploma or equivalent. 

Experience 

Prior experience in the health and human services field is preferred, but not required. 

Certifications & Licenses 

N/A 

Computer Skills 

Computer experience in Microsoft Office programs and basic computer fluency. 

Additional Qualifications 

Ability to work with persons with serious emotional disturbance and/or severe and persistent mental illness; ability to work independently and as a member of a therapeutic team; possess demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to react effectively in a variety of human service situations. 

 

Work Environment 

This job operates in a community setting, as well as in a professional office setting.  This position primarily works with clients out in the community and within the agency’s residential facilities.  This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; handle objects; grasp and reach for items with hands and arms; manipulate hands and fingers; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.  The employee is required to become certified in Managing Aggressive Behaviors (MAB), which includes training in proper restraint/physical intervention techniques to be utilized as a last resort. The employee is also required to become certified in CPR First Aid, which involves the use of upper body strength and stamina in order to push hard and fast on the chest for at least two inches at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Language skills are required, including the ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak the English language.  This position also requires the ability to interpret written materials, write reports and business correspondence, and effectively present and respond to questions.
