Wix Web Design Intern
CampusNIL and TastyExchange are offering a remote internship for college students who want immediate, hands-on website experience and a path into large-scale platform engineering. You will begin by maintaining and improving our two Wix-based sites—TastyExchange.com and CampusNIL.com—but the broader goal is to help us prepare CampusNIL for a national launch to 3.8 million students and beyond, including the technical, operational, and content work required to prevent site crashes and support millions of concurrent users.
You will make a direct impact on both platforms through hands-on site management, while also contributing over time to the systems, workflows, and documentation needed for a highly scalable launch.
Key responsibilities
Handle maintenance and content additions to TastyExchange.com and CampusNIL.com.
Upload new text, images, and media as directed.
Implement visual and functional improvements per evolving requirements.
Optimize website performance and usability across mobile and desktop devices.
Carry out on-page SEO updates (meta tags, headings, alt text) when needed.
Troubleshoot issues and resolve them within the Wix platform.
Communicate effectively with senior staff and take initiative to identify improvement opportunities.
How the role expands over time
Help document and streamline processes for digital card fulfillment and other repetitive workflows so they can be automated and scaled.
Assist in reducing manual processing of digital card redemptions by helping define rules, edge cases, and data needed for automation.
Support work on the CampusNIL advertiser tools so campaigns can be created, reviewed, approved, scheduled, and delivered reliably at high scale.
Participate in planning sessions on upgrading CampusNIL so it can support millions of concurrent student logins at launch, knowing the current build cannot yet handle the planned 3.8 million students.
Help with basic performance testing (page load checks, simple load scenarios, tracking issues) and contribute to launch-day checklists and runbooks.
Long-term launch and scale responsibilities
Contribute to monitoring and verification steps as traffic ramps up during major launches and campaigns.
Assist in tracking metrics (errors, slow pages, failed actions) and escalating issues to senior technical staff.
Update content and system messages in real time during peak usage to keep communication with students and advertisers clear and accurate.
Refine workflows and documentation after launch to support stability, new features, and growth beyond the initial 3.8 million students.
Core platform features you will support
Encrypted, role-based access for advertisers and administrators.
Campaign building tools with templates and validation checks.
Workflow for review, approval, and scheduling of campaigns.
High-scale delivery pipeline integrated with the student-facing site and apps.
Real-time analytics and reporting, including engagement and performance metrics.
Integration points for local restaurant offers and virtual presentation events, aligning national brands with campus and community experiences.
Estimated start-up cost context
As an intern, you will be contributing to a platform whose initial build involves:
Web application development: A complex, high-traffic application where development can reach six figures, including design, programming, testing, and deployment of the advertiser portal, student experience, and supporting services.
Infrastructure setup: Cloud infrastructure, load balancers, database clusters, and CDNs to support millions of concurrent users.
Security measures: Strong security controls such as firewalls, SSL certificates, encryption, and regular security audits.
Local restaurant component development: A dedicated component to manage nearby restaurant relationships and offers integrated into national campaigns.
Virtual presentation feature development: Tools that allow major advertisers to host live virtual presentations for large student audiences and offer on-demand playback.
Adjusted annual maintenance cost context
You will also help in an environment that requires:
Hosting and infrastructure: Enterprise-level hosting and cloud resources for heavy, peak traffic and strict uptime.
Content Delivery Network (CDN): Data-transfer-based CDN usage for delivering static assets and media to millions of users.
Ongoing development and updates: Continuous feature work, performance improvements, and bug fixes.
Security and compliance: Regular patches, vulnerability assessments, and compliance reviews.
Technical support: Operations and support needed to maintain 24/7 reliability for students and advertisers.
Backup and disaster recovery: Robust backup, failover, and recovery processes.
Performance monitoring and optimization: Monitoring tools and tuning to keep the platform fast at very high concurrency.
Local restaurant component maintenance and virtual presentation feature maintenance: Ongoing updates and scaling for these specialized components.
