Biomedical Equipment | 4A2X1

Note: This is a part‑time military position with the Maryland Air National Guard that requires a six‑year enlistment commitment.

 

As a Biomedical Equipment Specialist in the 4A2X1 career field, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of medical equipment within the United States Air Force. Your responsibilities will include the installation, inspection, maintenance, calibration, and repair of a wide range of medical devices and systems. This position requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of equipment functionality and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a variety of medical equipment, including diagnostic imaging systems, patient monitoring devices, surgical equipment, and therapeutic devices. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement appropriate corrective actions to ensure optimal performance.

2. Calibration and Testing: Calibrate and test medical equipment to ensure accurate measurements and functionality. Follow established protocols and standards to calibrate devices such as patient monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, and laboratory analyzers. Document calibration procedures, results, and maintenance activities in compliance with regulatory requirements.

3. Equipment Installation and Integration: Install, set up, and integrate new medical equipment and systems within healthcare facilities. Collaborate with healthcare professionals and facility staff to ensure proper placement, connectivity, and functionality of equipment. Verify that installations meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications.

4. Documentation and Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Update equipment databases, document service histories, and track inventory of spare parts and supplies. Generate reports on equipment status, performance, and maintenance activities to support effective equipment management.

5. Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to healthcare personnel on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medical equipment. Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance user proficiency and promote safe equipment operation. Serve as a technical resource for equipment-related inquiries and collaborate with manufacturers for technical support and updates.
