Note: This is a part‑time military position with the Maryland Air National Guard that requires a six‑year enlistment commitment.
As an HVAC/R specialist in the 3E1X1 career field, you will play a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems within Air Force facilities. Your responsibilities will include installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC/R systems to provide optimal indoor comfort and air quality. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and diverse environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. System Installation and Maintenance: Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC/R systems, including heating units, air conditioning units, ventilation systems, and refrigeration equipment. Ensure proper operation, efficiency, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Conduct preventive maintenance tasks, such as cleaning coils, replacing filters, and lubricating moving parts.
2. System Diagnostics and Repair: Utilize diagnostic equipment and tools to identify and resolve HVAC/R system malfunctions. Perform tests and inspections to determine the cause of problems and develop effective repair solutions. Repair or replace defective components, such as compressors, motors, fans, valves, and controls, to restore system functionality.
3. Refrigerant Handling: Handle refrigerants and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including proper storage, transportation, and disposal. Perform leak detection, repair refrigerant leaks, and conduct recharging procedures. Keep accurate records of refrigerant usage, documentation, and disposal.
4. System Controls and Automation: Program, calibrate, and troubleshoot HVAC/R system controls, including thermostats, sensors, and automated control panels. Ensure proper integration and synchronization of system components. Stay updated on advancements in control technologies and recommend improvements to enhance system performance and energy efficiency.
5. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of HVAC/R system installations, repairs, and maintenance activities. Complete required documentation, including work orders, maintenance logs, and equipment inventories. Generate reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and recommendations for system upgrades or replacements.
