ES Physical Education Teacher 2026-2027

Equality Charter School, founded in 2009, will expand upon its success in grades 6-12 and open Equality Charter Elementary School in the Fall of 2024. Equality Charter Elementary School (ECES) will enroll scholars in grades K-3 in the Fall of 2024 and continue to expand through grade 5 making Equality Charter School one of the largest independent charter schools serving grades K-12. 

Equality Charter Elementary School is delighted to begin our search for the founding ECES K-3 instructional team! ECES is seeking "can do", "roll up your sleeves", “above and beyond is the norm” team players who are up for the job of founding teacher. A founding teacher must be someone who is very comfortable with adapting to change, as we anticipate the realities of opening a new school will demand. Most importantly, our founding team members must epitomize our mission, vision and values to serve as brand ambassadors for our community and families, models for our scholars, and accountability partners for one another.

Position Overview: Gym Teacher (Physical Education Teacher)
As a Gym Teacher at Equality Charter School, you will play a pivotal role in fostering the physical, mental, and social development of our students. You will be responsible for creating an engaging and inclusive physical education curriculum that encourages students to develop healthy lifestyles, build teamwork, and embrace physical activity as part of their overall well-being.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver dynamic, engaging, and age-appropriate physical education lessons that promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal health.
  • Implement innovative teaching strategies to engage students in both individual and team-based physical activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the social, emotional, and physical development of every student.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate project-based learning and cross-curricular activities, encouraging students to connect physical activity with other areas of study.
  • Use data-driven instruction to assess students' physical progress and provide personalized support to ensure success for all learners.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, respect for others, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment, adhering to all safety protocols during physical activities.
  • Participate in school-wide events, including career days, field trips, and other special events, contributing to the holistic education of our students.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • New York State Teaching Certification in Physical Education (or in the process of obtaining reciprocity).
  • Proven classroom management skills with the ability to create a structured and positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues, parents, and students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate students while fostering a supportive classroom culture.
  • Experience in incorporating hands-on, cooperative, and interactive learning activities in physical education.
  • Passion for working with urban students and understanding the challenges they face.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a collaborative approach to teaching.

Salary Range: 

Bachelors only- 68k-85k

Masters only-76k-93k

Additional education and experience will be taken into account during compensation analysis.
