Note: This is a part‑time military position with the Maryland Air National Guard that requires a six‑year enlistment commitment.

 

As a Safety specialist in the 1S0X1 career field, you will play a critical role in promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for Air Force personnel. Your responsibilities will include conducting safety inspections, identifying and mitigating hazards, investigating accidents and incidents, and providing safety training and education. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and a commitment to ensuring the well-being of Air Force personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of work areas, facilities, and equipment to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards. Evaluate workplace conditions, processes, and procedures to proactively identify and mitigate risks. Prepare detailed reports of findings and recommend corrective actions to improve safety.

2. Hazard Identification and Mitigation: Collaborate with personnel across various Air Force units to identify and assess workplace hazards. Analyze data, accident reports, and safety trends to identify common risks and develop strategies for hazard mitigation. Implement safety controls and recommend engineering, administrative, and personal protective measures to reduce or eliminate hazards.

3. Accident and Incident Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-miss events to determine root causes and contributing factors. Collect and analyze evidence, interview personnel, and review documentation to establish facts and recommend preventive measures. Prepare comprehensive reports outlining findings and recommendations for corrective actions.

4. Safety Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs to promote awareness and understanding of safety regulations, procedures, and best practices. Provide guidance and education to personnel on topics such as occupational safety, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, and emergency response. Collaborate with other units and agencies to ensure consistent safety training across the organization.

5. Program Management and Compliance: Oversee the implementation and management of safety programs and initiatives within the unit. Monitor compliance with safety regulations, policies, and standards. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities. Assist in the development and revision of safety policies and procedures to ensure alignment with evolving regulations and best practices.
