Active Duty Air Force Clinical Psychologists Residency

1 year Residency program and after a career as a Clinical Psychologist in the Air Force.

Air Force Clinical Psychologists perform a mix of professional activities including clinical evaluation and treatment, occupational/organizational consultation, administrative management and leadership, and educational/preventive outreach. Clinical care includes bio-psychosocial assessment and treatment using empirically based practices for active duty and other Military Health System beneficiaries with a broad range of mental health problems. Clinical psychologists work in a multi-disciplinary environment with a variety of mental health and other medical professionals to deliver collaborative, comprehensive care. Psychologists may work full-time or portions of full-time in mental health, primary care, substance abuse or domestic violence clinic settings. They also deploy in support of wartime and emergency contingencies, providing combat operational stress control services, psychological and cognitive assessment, crisis management and support, and treatment of psychological problems and disorders. Consultation within ethical standards and legal requirements with unit commanders is frequently required regarding occupational health issues and suitability for special duties. Leadership roles may include activities such as supervising mental health staff, providing in-service training for mental health and other medical professionals, inter-agency facilitation of support services for Airmen and families, as well as oversight and management of mental health clinics. Psychologists also use their skills to design and implement psycho-educational briefings and outreach programs to optimize mission effectiveness and general wellness. At certain duty locations and with appropriate background and experience, clinical psychologists provide intern and post-doctoral training, conduct research, and deliver specialty services (neuropsychology, clinical health psychology, child psychology, aerospace psychology, aircraft safety, and operational psychology)
