USGA P.J. Boatwright Internship
POSITION: 2026 USGA P.J. Boatwright Championships Intern
LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: 3 Months — Mid-May through Mid-August (dates are flexible)
REPORTS TO: IGA Manager of Rules & Competitions
POSITION CONCEPT:
Funded through a grant from the United States Golf Association, the P.J. Boatwright Internship provides a comprehensive introduction and hands-on training experience for individuals interested in a career in golf administration. The primary focus of this role is to support the IGA Championship staff in the administration and operation of IGA and USGA events. Additional opportunities may include gaining experience in member services, Handicapping™, and Course Rating™. The position is based at the Idaho Golf Association office in Boise.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the IGA’s Manager of Rules & Competitions with conducting IGA Championships, including:
On-site assistance at IGA Championships and USGA Qualifiers
Helping customers with online registrations for IGA Championships
Supporting staff with pre-event administration (host club communication, tournament materials, etc.)
Assisting with on-site setup (course marking, Notice to Players, hole locations, etc.)
Assisting with on-site event operations (starting, officiating, scoring, volunteer coordination, etc.)
Attending Idaho Junior Tour events as requested
REQUIREMENTS:
Strong knowledge of the game of golf and its etiquette
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting with players and volunteers
Strong organizational skills and time management
Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and solid problem-solving abilities
Confidence in making decisions that represent the IGA
Understanding that intern conduct reflects the IGA at all times
Willingness to learn and apply the Rules of Golf under guidance from IGA Staff
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and remain self-motivated
Preferred: College students with experience in customer service and/or athletics
Proficiency with computers, the internet, and Microsoft Office
Ability to lift and manage up to 50 pounds and troubleshoot equipment or operational issues
Availability to work weekends, early mornings, and long days in various weather conditions
Must have housing in the Boise, Idaho area
Must provide a personal laptop for office and field use
TRAVEL:
Requires travel, including the ability to be on the road for a full week at a time, including weekends
Must possess a valid driver’s license and feel comfortable driving and packing vans
