Job Title: Network Engineer – Cybersecurity Specialist

Location: Anaheim, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: IT Manager

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Network Engineer with strong cybersecurity expertise to join our IT team. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network infrastructures while ensuring optimal performance and compliance with security standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Ubiquiti switches, Fortinet routers, firewall deployment, and advanced troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Design & Implementation
    • Architect and deploy LAN/WAN networks using Ubiquiti switches and Fortinet routers.
    • Configure VLANs, routing protocols, and QoS for optimized performance.
  • Cybersecurity & Firewall Management
    • Implement and manage Fortinet firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and VPN solutions.
    • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and patch management.
  • Hardware Installation & Maintenance
    • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware including switches, routers, and firewalls.
    • Perform preventive maintenance and hardware upgrades.
  • Troubleshooting & Support
    • Diagnose and resolve complex network issues promptly.
    • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for escalated network and security incidents.
  • Monitoring & Documentation
    • Monitor network performance and security using tools like SNMP, Syslog, and FortiAnalyzer.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and security policies.
  • Compliance & Best Practices
    • Ensure adherence to cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001) and company policies.
    • Collaborate with IT and security teams to enforce compliance standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3–5 years in network engineering roles.
    • Hands-on experience with Ubiquiti and Fortinet hardware.
    • Strong knowledge of firewall implementation, VPNs, and network security principles.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    • CompTIA Network+ / Security+
    • Fortinet NSE (Level 4 or higher)
    • Cisco CCNA or CCNP
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols.
    • Familiarity with cybersecurity tools and SIEM solutions.
    • Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry network equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in server rooms, confined spaces, and elevated areas.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights for cable installation.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
  • Extended periods of standing, bending, and kneeling during hardware setup.
  • Occasional travel between sites for network deployment and maintenance.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in network segmentation and zero-trust architecture.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and hybrid environments.
  • Ability to create network diagrams and documentation using tools like Visio.
