The International Sibling Society, a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit with partnerships across 190+ countries, is seeking a Content Moderation & Virtual Museum Curator Intern to help build and manage the issNOW.earth Virtual Museum—a digital gallery showcasing arts, culture, and humanitarian stories from every corner of the globe.

As a Content Moderation & Virtual Museum Curator Intern, you will review, curate, and publish story submissions from artists, photographers, cultural organizations, and storytellers worldwide. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital curation, content moderation, cultural programming, and community engagement.

 

What You'll Do:

You will manage the content pipeline for the Virtual Museum module, reviewing story submissions (photos, videos, written narratives) for quality, appropriateness, and alignment with the UN SDGs. You will curate thematic galleries, write artist profiles, moderate user-generated content, and engage with the global creative community to promote cultural exchange and social impact storytelling.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and moderate story submissions (text, photos, videos) for quality, appropriateness, and SDG alignment
  • Curate thematic galleries organized by SDG topic, geographic region, or artistic medium
  • Write compelling artist profiles, exhibition descriptions, and curatorial statements
  • Ensure content meets platform guidelines and respects cultural sensitivity and intellectual property rights
  • Engage with artists and storytellers via email and social media to encourage submissions and build community
  • Monitor gallery analytics (views, shares, engagement) and generate monthly reports
  • Collaborate with marketing team to promote featured stories on social media and email newsletters
  • Assist with content tagging, metadata entry, and search engine optimization
  • Participate in focus groups and user testing to improve the Virtual Museum user experience
  • Support virtual exhibition launches and online cultural events

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor's degree program in Art History, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • Strong visual literacy and ability to evaluate artistic and photographic quality
  • Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Cultural sensitivity and appreciation for global diversity
  • Understanding of content moderation principles and community guidelines
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content trends
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment

Preferred:

  • Experience with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, or similar)
  • Background in photography, visual arts, or digital media production
  • Knowledge of copyright law and Creative Commons licensing
  • Experience with image editing software (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Canva)
  • Multilingual skills (especially Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin, or other UN languages)
  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in museums, galleries, or cultural organizations

 

Position Details

Location Type: Remote (work from anywhere)
Schedule: Part-time (15-20 hours per week, flexible scheduling)
Duration: 12 weeks (with possibility of extension based on performance and funding)
Start Date: Flexible (rolling admissions with cohort start dates in February, May, and August 2026)
Compensation: Unpaid internship with professional development benefits and academic credit eligibility on your college transcript (subject to university approval)
 

Time Commitment Breakdown:

  • Content review and moderation: 8-10 hours/week
  • Curatorial writing and gallery creation: 3-4 hours/week
  • Community engagement and outreach: 2-3 hours/week
  • Team meetings and collaboration: 2 hours/week
  • Analytics and reporting: 1-2 hours/week
