Reading Intervention Coach(tutor)
You’ll be a mentor and coach while helping students become more proficient in reading. You will receive on-the-job training. Just bring your positive spirit and desire to help children in our community reach their full potential.
You must have a genuine interest in the growth and development of youth and a proficiency in elementary English. You must have the ability to establish authority and connections through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience. We expect our coaches to provide a stable and nurturing atmosphere that our students will need to succeed. Ensuring that Literacy and Hope’s students reach their highest potential will take a tremendous amount of hard work, flexibility, and commitment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic enrichment by implementing structured lesson plans which are detailed in the curriculum.
- Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging that kids want to be in.
- Interacts with the children in a nurturing way that conveys respect.
- Keep accurate records of students’ attendance so it can be billed accordingly.
- Communicate student’s progress on a regular basis with parents, program leader, and school.
- Commit to one school year with assigned students.
Requirements:
- Must commit to at least 1 hour- two days per week with each student assigned between 4-6 pm at assigned school in South City and possibly North County. You can decide to coach more than one student.
- Must review and be prepared to teach each session in advance of coaching session with student.
- Proof of graduation from High School
- Must complete the pre-tutoring training program unless you are a teacher or retired teacher, which may be modified based on experience.
- Must be fluent in English and use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speaks with clear articulation.
- Must pass initial and annual Background Checks/Fingerprints
- Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, courteous, flexible, kind, and responsible. Displays integrity, self-control, punctuality, and gratitude.
- Literacy and Hope is a Christian program that adheres to Christian doctrine.
Job Type: Part-time (2-8 hrs/week)
Education: College student- majoring in education/behavioral science.
Experience: At least six months of experience working or volunteering with elementary students in a classroom, after-school, or recreation environment.
Pay $20/hr
