West End School (WES) is a tuition-free, independent, PK-8th grade school with a mission to provide a safe, structured environment in which academic rigor, character development, and responsible action establish the foundation for a purposeful life. Admission is open to students who qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch and who are capable of attaining grade-level proficiency. WES strives to address the issues boys & girls in our community face by creating for its students a loving environment of high expectations and personal responsibility. Overview of Before/After Care Program:
The Before/After Care Program at WES is intended as extra support to our working families and our students. The Before/After Care Program’s goal is to provide a variety of activities--after the formal school day--ranging from elective clubs (orchestra, drama, arts and culture, book club, etc.) and academic skill building to project-oriented, play-based learning that reinforces valuable skills for student success in the classroom and daily life. We also provide a space for students to work on and receive help with homework as well as tutoring.
The WES Before/After Care Program Coordinator is responsible for facilitating a positive, fun, and engaging environment with a focus on safety and responsibility. WES Before/After Care Program Coordinator will work in coordination with the Before/After Care Program Team and classroom teachers to support our students’ academic goals and character development.
- The responsibilities for a WES Before/After Care Team Member are, but not limited to, as follows:
- Actively and positively engage with students in learning activities, games, and homework help
- Supervise school-aged children, utilizing effective classroom management techniques, ultimately creating a joyous, structured, and safe environment
- Supervise students at work and at play both in indoor and outdoor settings during all seasons
- Lead large group, small group, and individual activities to keep students engaged
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and staff
- Know, understand, and consistently apply all safety procedures
- Model West End School values and expectations demonstrating trust, honesty, forgiveness, respect, and perseverance
- Perform all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance to rules, policies, and regulations, together with exhibiting high professionalism, standards of conduct, and strong work ethic
- Other duties as assigned
Pay starting at $15.00 hourly.
Qualifications and Experience:
An ideal candidate for a WES Before/After Care Coordinator possesses:
Education and Experience:
- Child care experience or a desire to learn and grow in that area
- Must be able to consistently work afternoons 3:00-6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, during the school year.
- Previous experience working with diverse students
- Must be 18 years old or older. We encourage current students to apply.
