About Claryx

Claryx is building a next-generation biosurveillance platform to stop infections before they start, starting with hospitals. By combining environmental sampling with advanced molecular and sequencing methods, we detect pathogens and antimicrobial resistance in near real time – enabling proactive, targeted interventions that prevent hospital-acquired infections, protect patients and improve outcomes.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a Computational Biologist to build, optimize, and maintain Claryx’s computational backbone: bioinformatics pipelines, dashboards, data infrastructure and security. You’ll own end-to-end workflows from data ingestion (qPCR, Illumina sequencing) through analysis and result delivery. This role suits a hands-on computational biologist who can build reliable bioinformatics tools and maintain a scalable platform. An ideal candidate will have a strong background in metagenomics, genomic epidemiology, ML, and data infrastructure/security (HIPAA/SOC 2) practices; however, we’re open to candidates with a strong bioinformatics and scientific background who are eager to learn and motivated by our mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, operate, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for metagenomic biosurveillance.
  • Automate QC, taxonomic profiling, AMR detection; integrate qPCR results for cross‑validation.
  • Build predictive models from genomic and associated data.
  • Deploy and maintain all workflows on AWS.
  • Build dashboards for results communication; enforce data hygiene and access control by default.
  • Containerize workflows; use a workflow manager and CI for reproducibility and tests.
  • Support HIPAA/SOC 2 workflows with healthcare partners (audit logging, least privilege, encryption).

Qualifications

  • B.S. (or higher) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years hands-on bioinformatics experience, including metagenomic, phylogenetic, and comparative genomics workflows. Experience with machine learning/AI is a benefit.
  • Python (required); proficiency with Git, Linux/bash; experience with workflow managers and containers.
  • Experience analyzing metagenomic data with common tools.
  • Solid grasp of databases (SQL), data modelling, ETL, and AWS cloud services.
  • Nice to have: R; dashboard frameworks; bioinformatics database experience.

Growth Path

This role is designed to evolve into a Senior Computational Platform Lead, expanding ownership across pipelines, data platform, and security as Claryx scales.
