The of Arc Butte County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Established in 1962, we are committed to promoting the inclusion, empowerment, and independence of people with IDD. Through a wide range of services, including adult day programs, family support, respite care, job development, and independent living skills training, we aim to improve the quality of life for those we serve and advocate for their human rights and full participation in society.

About the position:
As a Human Resources Intern, you will work directly with our HR team to enhance compliance systems, support documentation processes, and drive improvements in internal operations. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to apply academic training in a professional setting.
This is a part-time internship (20 hours/week) with a flexible schedule during our working hours of M-F from 8am-5pm.
What You'll Do:
● Conduct document reviews and ensure documentation meets federal compliance standards (I-9’s, training and employee records)
● Analyze and improve filing systems for increased efficiency and reliability
● Organize and maintain physical and digital HR records with accuracy and confidentiality
● Support operational functions that keep HR processes running smoothly
● Assist with projects that improve workflows and boost team productivity
● Other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring:
● Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Human Resources Management undergrad program
● Strong attention to detail and eagerness to develop analytical skills
● Able to take initiative and prioritize tasks
● Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
● Reliable, punctual, and good time management
● Collaborative and mission-driven mindset with a genuine interest in learning about and supporting the nonprofit sector and its community impact
● Ability to adapt and pivot as needed to changing department or organization needs
● Openness to learning in a supportive, hands-on internship role
● Comfortable interacting with individuals who have intellectual/developmental disabilities
● Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office; familiarity with HR systems or databases is a plus
Physical Requirements:
● Must pass a post offer pre-employment background check, non- arduous physical, drug/TB screen
● Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing administrative tasks
● Ability to lift and move office files or supplies up to 15 pounds
● Ability to reach, bend and kneel to access filing cabinets or storage areas
● Ability to work in a standard office environment, with occasional movement between internal office spaces
● Reliable transportation to and from the office
● Work environment may include exposure to pet allergens. The Arc maintains a pet-friendly culture, and animals (such as the office cat) may occasionally be present in the workplace. Employees may also encounter pet allergens through donated items or community environments.
