Being a Respite Companion/Behavior Support Companion is more than just a job; you'll develop personal relationships with the individuals and families you work with!
Our Respite Companions provide direct services and compassionate home companionship to children and adults with developmental disabilities with a wide range of supportive needs.
Location and scheduled hours dependent on clients' and YOUR availability! Positions can be part-time or full-time!
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary support staff, effectively addressing day-to-day challenges in providing respite services.
- Provide primary caregivers relief from their daily caregiving responsibilities.
- Assist clients, their parents/guardians, and siblings in enjoying a less stressful home environment.
- Work in clients' homes throughout Orange County, such as Anaheim, Fullerton, Norwalk, Tustin, Westminster, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, Ladera Ranch, Irvine, Buena Park, Rancho Santa Margarita, Dana Point, and Long Beach.
- Address behaviors and implement skill-building activities, behavior plans to reduce crises, promote independence, and support positive routines.
- Maintain positive relationships with the families cared for.
- Engage clients through activities they enjoy.
- Provide personal care and support for daily living needs.
- Conduct and lead socialization activities.
- Keep accurate records for each service recipient.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Basic computer skills.
- Familiarity with developmental disabilities.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends. The schedule will be based on the needs of the client and family.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Proof of valid CA driver's license, copy of auto insurance liability coverage, and clear DMV report.
- Operational vehicle.
- Proof of/willingness to receive CPR and First Aid training certifications.
- Must clear background report.
Physical Activity Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds (e.g., groceries, housewares, or move furniture).
- Ability to assist, guide, and facilitate movement of clients needing physical assistance (e.g., wheelchair transfer, walking).
- Ability to actively participate in frequent recreational activities.
Training:
- Participate in approximately 40 hours of required training during the first three months of employment.
- Includes competency-based training, on-the-job field training, and additional training from IABA professionals or external agencies.
Wages:
- Starting at $20-$22, depending on previous experience.
