R&D Adhesives Intern

Carlisle Construction Materials (CCM) is looking for a motivated R&D Adhesives Intern to join our Research & Innovation Center in Carlisle, PA. This role offers hands-on experience in adhesive formulation, laboratory testing, and process development while contributing to real projects that support CCM’s commercial roofing product portfolio.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Formulate and mix solvent-based adhesives, primers, and pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs)
  • Prepare samples and perform physical property testing using an Instron tensiometer and other lab equipment
  • Conduct rheological testing and support method development
  • Perform wet chemistry experiments, including solvent swelling and extractions
  • Collaborate with R&D teams, analytical groups, and pilot-scale operations
  • Assist with scale-up trials, coordinating with production to collect materials, samples, and data
  • Document all laboratory methods, test results, and trial observations accurately
  • Participate in meetings with production, suppliers, purchasing, marketing, and other internal groups
  • Follow all CCM laboratory and company-wide safety programs

 

Qualifications

  • Third-year undergraduate or graduate student pursuing:
  • Materials Science or Engineering
  • Polymer Science or Engineering
  • Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Background in analytical chemistry or statistics is a plus
  • Ability to work full-time May–August 2026
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and willingness to work hands-on in a laboratory environment
