Residency Teaching Artist

We are looking for a Residency Teaching Artist to lead a Creative Pathways Residency on site in Cambridge, MA and guide participants as they work collaboratively on shared artworks as well as individual take home projects over a series of weekly sessions. It is ideal for a working artist who cares deeply about community connection, art education, and the process of making.

  • Specialized Workshop Instruction: Lead occasional focused workshops (e.g., gouache still life), demonstrating deep technical knowledge in specialized artistic disciplines.
  • Technical Instruction: Provide expert guidance on the proper use, layering, and safety of diverse art materials to participants of varied skill levels.
  • Process Continuation & Curation: Execute dedicated studio work between sessions with the explicit goal of tightening and guiding the collaborative artworks forward. This includes enhancing, highlighting, and following participants’ original contributions while maintaining the overall composition and ensuring movement towards a professional final result.
  • Curriculum Implementation: Effectively manage and facilitate participant engagement with the established curriculum, including:
    • Regular work in sketchbooks.
    • Creation of finished greeting cards.
    • Development of materials for collages.
    • Advancement of large-scale collaborative artworks.
  • Guidance & Mentorship: Guide participants through creative processes, encouraging experimentation and the successful combination of diverse mediums in their work, while emphasizing the value of the process of making.

Cross-Cultural Communication & Community

  • Multilingual Asset: Possessing proficiency in languages spoken by the community is a significant asset (there are many, so any language skills are an asset here).
  • Non-Verbal Communication: High comfort and competence in using visual communication, demonstrations, and universally understood artistic gestures to convey complex instructions to a multilingual group
  • Adaptability & Resourcefulness: Skillful in utilizing on-the-spot translation tools (e.g., Google Translate, AI translation apps) to effectively communicate with a diverse cohort from multiple language backgrounds.
  • Community Focus: Demonstrate a deep commitment to community connection and maintain an inclusive, culturally sensitive environment that makes the art-making process accessible to all.

Materials

All materials will be supplied to get started plus a regular materials stipend will be included to supplement additional costs that are either purchased or migrated into the project from the teaching artist's personal studio practice.
