JOB SUMMARY: The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive primary and preventive care to adult patients, collaborating with a team of volunteers and staff to ensure high-quality care while complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as Agency regulations and protocols.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Provides functional supervision of medical assistants in the absence of the clinic director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide primary health care services for patients with acute and chronic illness according to evidence-based guidelines and clinic protocols.
- Provide direct patient services, including a thorough health assessment, physical exam, diagnosis, treatment plan, and management of acute and chronic conditions in adult patients.
- Prescribe and dispense medications in an appropriate manner and in accordance with clinic and local guidelines.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests.
- Provide preventive care, health education, and counseling according to healthcare needs and learning abilities to promote effective self-care.
- Ensure protocols and guides are in accordance with best practices, and services are provided in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold clinic standards of care.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with clinic policies and regulations.
- Participate in quarterly chart reviews.
- Participate in quality improvement meetings and initiatives to promote better patient care and improved outcomes.
- Collaborate with the clinic coordinator to provide preventative care, health screenings, and chronic care management to patients.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program.
- Board certification as an Adult-Gerontology or Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Maintain an active Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the District of Columbia (or eligible).
- Current DEA in DC (or eligible).
- Must meet the requirements for credentialing and privileging, including maintaining professional certification and prescriptive authority.
- Current basic life support (BLS) certification.
- One year of clinical experience in adult primary care preferred (new graduates considered).
- 1-year professional experience in Charity Care preferred.
- Experience working with a multicultural low-income population preferred.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Familiarity with electronic health records (eClinicalWorks preferred).
