Student Worker
The employee will assist a research technologist and Grad students in greenhouse and field operations that support plant disease and crop research. Responsibilities include routine plant care, experiment setup, data collection, and maintaining accurate records to ensure the success of ongoing research trials.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
Assist in the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of greenhouse, field and growth-chamber experiments.
Help with planting, labeling, and environmental monitoring.
Prepare and handle plant samples for laboratory analyses (e.g., rating, weighing, or pathogen assessment).
Collect, organize, and enter research data accurately into Excel or specialized software
Maintain clean and organized workspaces in both greenhouse and laboratory environments.
Follow safety and research protocols under the supervision of faculty or senior staff.
Contribute to team communication and help troubleshoot daily experimental needs.
Assist with inoculating plants with pathogens under supervision.
Sterilize and prepare lab materials (e.g., media, glassware, pipettes).
Conduct microscopic or visual evaluation of plant diseases.
Label and store biological samples following biosafety protocols.
The duties described above are not exhaustive. The employee will also assist research technologists with additional greenhouse, field, or laboratory tasks as they arise to ensure smooth daily operations and the success of research projects.
Qualifications / Requirements
Required:
Currently pursuing BA or MA
Must be 18 years old or older
Strong attention to detail
Have interest in Agriculture, AgScience, Plant pathology, or related field
Able to work independently and in teams
Comfortable in field or lab setting
Pass a color blindness test
Must be willing to work during summer, can work up to 40hrs/per week
Preferred:
Understand the use of Pesticide
Experience with excel
Freshman or Sophomore standing
Work Schedule / Compensation
Starting Pay $15
Flexible hours, weekday, optional weekends(after fully trained)
Location
Must be able to work in Lincoln, On campus(UNL) research farm located on havelock and 84th.
