Pre-Health Shadowing (PHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit redefining how students explore healthcare careers. We connect learners worldwide with free, virtual shadowing sessions and mentorship opportunities—removing barriers like geography, finances, and limited professional networks.
Role Overview
We’re looking for a Department Head of Human Resources to lead people operations for our fully remote volunteer team. You’ll manage recruitment pipelines, onboarding, policy updates, HR communication, and support for department leads across the organization. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll help shape the volunteer experience and strengthen the culture of a global nonprofit serving 72,000+ students.
What You’ll Do
Oversee HR operations, including recruitment workflows, applications, interviews, and role placement
Manage smooth, timely onboarding/offboarding (account setup, trainings, expectations, and documentation)
Support department leads with performance management, conflict resolution, and organizational restructuring
Strengthen communication norms across Slack and Monday.com to help teams stay aligned
Improve volunteer retention through check-ins, culture-building initiatives, and support systems
Update HR policies, build SOPs, and track team metrics to ensure consistency and accountability
Lead a small HR team and work closely with PHS leadership on organizational planning
What We’re Looking For
Experience in HR, people operations, leadership, or team management (student orgs count!)
Strong communication skills and comfort managing volunteers across time zones
Organized, proactive, and able to hold teams accountable with kindness
Interest in healthcare education, nonprofit work, or people management
Ability to commit 10–15 hours/week
