SelectUSA Communications & Outreach Internship - Spring 2026

SelectUSA is a federal program dedicated to promoting business investment in the United States, operating within the Global Markets division of the International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Internship Responsibilities:

  • Support the 2026 SelectUSA Investment Summit, the premier U.S. event focused on promoting FDI, taking place from May 3-6, 2026.
    • Assist with preparation and support on-site at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. 
  • Handle inquiries from media, stakeholders, and officials, both domestic and international.
  • Assist in strategic planning for intergovernmental and congressional outreach.
  • Assist in editing and revising talking points, remarks, slide decks, letters, briefing papers, and other materials for senior U.S. government officials.
  • Edit and draft various written materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Support policy initiatives aimed at attracting and retaining foreign direct investment (FDI) in the U.S.
  • Be a proactive member of the team, and share ideas and collaborate to promote FDI.
  • Support high-level stakeholder relationships and staff in-person engagements. 

Requirements:

Ideal candidates will have academic or professional experience in public affairs, communications, writing, political science, economics, international relations, or journalism. Strong skills in writing, research, interpersonal abilities, critical reasoning, and verbal communication are essential, along with attention to detail, adaptability, and a familiarity with U.S. economic policy. A genuine interest in public service is also important. Candidates must be U.S. citizens.

Selected interns will need to undergo a background check upon arrival to meet minimum security requirements.

Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week (in office at 1401 Constitution Ave NW Washington, D.C.). We do not offer a remote work option. Interns must be available to work on-site May 3-6, 2026 at the Gaylord.
