2026 Rakow Library Oral History Internship (Spring or Summer)

Summary

The Rakow Library Oral History internship offers a unique, impactful learning and professional development experience that will contribute substantially to the Library’s rapidly accelerating multimedia history program. The intern will process new recorded interviews related to the upcoming major exhibition, Tough Stuff: Women in American Studio Glass. This includes reviewing AI-generated transcriptions, standardizing formatting, creating metadata for the recorded files, and developing a research guide to facilitate discovery and access. In addition, the intern will prioritize work on legacy recordings to improve access.

Responsibilities

Processing

  • Review, proofread, and correct AI-generated transcription.
  • Using library style guidelines, reformat transcripts to include standardized information.
  • Create metadata to describe the contents of the recordings to assist with development of bibliographic records

Discovery

  • Develop a research guide to facilitate access to oral histories at the Rakow Library, specifically Studio Glass-related recordings.
  • Use the Library's digital asset management system to upload completed transcripts.
  • Communicate enhanced metadata to cataloging staff for inclusion in the Library's bibliographic record

General

Qualifications

  • Highly accurate, detail-oriented and organized.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong collaboration skills. 
  • Facility with technology, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Understanding of library descriptive best practices.
  • Experience or coursework in library science, history, oral history, or related fields.
