Our Independent Living Skills(ILS) team plays an essential role in delivering hands-on support that promotes confidence, independence, and personal growth.
Position Summary
The Independent Living SkillsTrainer provides individualized, one-on-one training and support to clients with developmental disabilities or other barriers to independent living. Working directly in clients’ homes and community settings, the Trainer helps individuals acquire, strengthen, and maintain essential life skillsthat improve daily functioning and enhance overall quality of life.
This position requires a compassionate, patient, and reliable individual who can teach, guide, and motivate clients while maintaining professional boundaries and adherence to all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Independent Living Skills(ILS) assessments and develop individualized service plans based on client needs and goals.
- Provide direct instruction and hands-on support in areas such as money management, budgeting, meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, and household maintenance.
- Assist clients with personal care routines, hygiene, transportation, and community safety awareness.
- Support clients in accessing community resources, scheduling appointments, and building healthy relationships.
- Encourage self-determination and decision-making, fostering greater independence and self-confidence.
- Document all services, progress notes, and incidents accurately and in compliance with agency, state, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain ongoing communication with supervisors, case managers, and family members regarding client progress and needs.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with all organizational, ethical, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Act as a positive role model for clients, demonstrating professionalism, respect, and empathy at all times.
Qualifications and Candidate Profile
- High School Diploma or GED required; additional coursework in human services, psychology, or related fields preferred.
•Minimum one (1) year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or similar populations preferred.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•Ability tomotivate, teach, and support clients toward independence.
•Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license (if the position requires travel).
•Ability towork independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing client needs.
•Basic computer literacy for documentation, reporting, and communication.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work may occur in client homes, community environments, or other non-office settings.
- Requires flexibility to work varied schedules, including evenings or weekends, based on client needs.
- May involve light physical activity, such as standing, walking, or lifting objects up to 25 pounds.
- Must be comfortable working independently while maintaining consistent communication with supervisors and team members.
