DESCRIPTION The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking candidates for the position of Affirmative Action Specialist Trainee within the Civil Rights & Affirmative Action Division, Title VI/Nondiscrimination Programs. Current starting salary is $53,807.27 and advances to $56,253.35 after six months of successful work. 

The Department of Transportation (DOT) currently offers a telework pilot program, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work at your primary residence outside of your assigned DOT work location. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired NJDOT employees to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. 

New hires will not be eligible for the telework pilot program until they successfully complete their 4 - month working test period. 

The Division of Civil Rights/Affirmative Action serves the employees and clients of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and is responsible for overseeing and ensuring that all NJDOT programs, activities and services are provided in a nondiscriminatory manner and in accordance with State and Federal anti - discrimination mandates. This position is assigned to our Title VI/Nondiscrimination Programs Unit and provides the support necessary to implement an effective, department wide Nondiscrimination Program which includes Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI), Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Language Access. 

Position Description: Under direction, and as a trainee this position will receive on - the - job training in performing a wide variety of work involved in the division's implementation of its responsibilities to ensure nondiscrimination in the department's programs, activities and services through the application and requirements under Title VI, ADA, and Language Access. The trainee will be involved in all facets of the Nondiscrimination Program Unit including conducting comprehensive compliance reviews; data collection and tracking; investigating noncompliance matters; preparing reports; coordinating outreach; training department employees and subrecipients; and developing informational/guidance/training materials.

• Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook 

REQUIREMENTS 

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience. 

Four (4) years of professional experience relevant to the position. Experience must be related to the journeyman title associated with the position. 

OR

 Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. 

NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession's concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.
