The Student Success & Academic Services department provides programs and resources to Round Rock campus students to support academic and post-graduation goals with a focus on recruitment, persistence, retention and completion. Our department is a welcoming space and typically serves as the first point of contact for campus guests, prospective students, and community partners when they call and visit the Round Rock Campus.

Purpose of the Role (Why this role exists):
To provide exceptional academic support on a one-on-one or in small group basis.
Required Qualifications (What we require you bring to the team):
- Must be enrolled as a student at the Texas State University Round Rock Campus
- Have and will maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0 or above
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional demeanor
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills are required for 1:1 and group interactions
- Receive a grade of A in the selected subjects taken at the University (certain exceptions may be allowed on a person-by-person basis for transfer credits)
- Demonstrate motivation and results-oriented behavior
- Ability to address and resolve inquiries with patience and resourcefulness
- Approach problem-solving with a proactive "can-do" attitude
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Capability to work in a fast-paced environment with ease
- Proven record of being dependable and completing tasks in a timely manner
- We are currently seeking Math-specific tutors, particularly those with strong academic performance in courses such as College Algebra (MATH 1315), Calculus I (MATH 2471), and Math for Business (MATH 1329)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior tutoring or academic support experience
- Familiarity with campus resources, services, and procedures
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for special events
Description (What you will do):
Student Success tutors assist students in one-on-one or in small groups, as needed. They don't check homework or give answers; instead, they help students learn how to learn by assisting them in finding answers on their own, reviewing essential course concepts, and developing effective study habits. Tutors work in subjects and courses in which they have a proven record of success.
Note: At this time, The Study Zone is especially seeking tutors who can support Math, Statistics, and other quantitative subjects. Applicants with strong backgrounds in these areas will receive priority consideration.
Responsibilities
- Provide a welcoming and safe environment for students who seek tutoring
- Attend all scheduled tutoring appointments
- Participate in periodic training
- Attend periodic meetings
- Perform additional administrative duties, including program development and marketing
- Assist with routine checks and maintenance of the Study Zone at the Round Rock Campus
Work Schedule (When you are expected to work):
Tutors will work between 10 and 20 hours per week. The Study Zone hours are Monday – Thursday 10am-6pm and Fridays 10am-3:30pm. We will work with you to identify the days and times of your shift(s) and schedule your shifts around your class times. You may not work during the time when you have class.

Training (How we prepare you):
To receive adequate training, tutors will be required to:
- Attend the student training in early January
- Attend student staff monthly meetings
Starting Pay Rate:
$15.00 per hour
Evaluation Frequency:
Tutors are evaluated by their supervisor at the end of each long semester.
