Mental Health Coordinator

Mental Health Coordinator 

Volunteer Coordinator Position (Paid Stipend)

Organization: I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation
Partnership: Hispanic Federation Collaborative Initiative
Location: NYC schools
Reports To: Joselyn Cherrez, Project Lead 
Position Type: Volunteer Team Lead Mental Health Advocate (Paid Stipend)
Compensation: $1,200 per 8-week program cycle also have the ability to receive credit hours for school. 
Commitment: 12-20 hours/week for 8-week cycles (multiple cycles available)

The Mental Health Advocate coordinates all youth mental health programming, ensuring families can participate together without childcare barriers.

Position Overview

We seek an organized, bilingual (Spanish/English preferred) adult volunteer to coordinate mental health first aid workshops for children and teens ages 5-18. You will train, and supervise adult Mental Health Aide facilitators, manage all workshop logistics, and ensure quality programming that complements our family-centered approach.

This role requires in-person presence at all workshops, strong coordination skills, and a passion for youth mental wellness in Latinx/Hispanic communities.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Coordination 

Schedule and organize mental health workshops concurrent with postpartum sessions

Secure spaces, supplies, and resources for age-appropriate programming

Manage registration, attendance, and family communication

Ensure safe, welcoming environment for youth participants

Coordinate with Joselyn on master scheduling and family needs

Mental Health Aide Supervision 

Recruit and select qualified adult Mental Health Aide facilitators (3-5 per site)

Coordinate Mental Health First Aid certification training

Provide ongoing training, coaching, and support

Supervise facilitators during workshops and provide feedback

Build collaborative team culture among aides

Program Quality & Safety 

Be present at all workshops to supervise and support facilitators

Respond to crises using Mental Health First Aid protocols

Ensure curriculum fidelity and age-appropriateness

Track outcomes and participant engagement

Comply with mandatory reporting requirements

Communication & Reporting 

Maintain regular communication with participating families

Submit weekly reports to Program Director

Document attendance, incidents, and program data

Collaborate with Hispanic Federation partners

Contribute to grant reporting and program evaluation

Required Qualifications

 Age 21+ with background check clearance
 Mental Health First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain immediately - training provided)
 Minimum 2 years experience working with children, youth, or families
 Strong organizational and coordination skills
 Reliable transportation and availability during workshop times (typically evenings/weekends)
 Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred
 Cultural competency working with Latinx/Hispanic communities
 Ability to work independently while collaborating with program team

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, public health, or related field OR relevant experience

Experience supervising staff or volunteers

Knowledge of Social-Emotional Learning (CASEL framework)

First Aid/CPR certification

Experience coordinating programs or events

Lived experience with mental health system or family support

Time Commitment

During 8-Week Program Cycle:

Workshop days: 4-5 hours per workshop (typically 2 days/week) = 8-10 hours

Planning & supervision: 4-5 hours/week (meetings, prep, communication)

Total: 12-20 hours/week

Between Cycles:

Lighter schedule (5-8 hours/week) for planning next cycle and evaluation

Initial Training:

2-week intensive training period (20-25 hours total) before first cycle
