Speech Language Pathologist

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

JOB GOAL: To provide speech/language therapy to students (ages 3-21 ) to students with speech/language disorders. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: • Master’s in Speech Pathology with Georgia certification • Ability to relate well to students, parents, and co-workers. • Physical demands-position requires significant standing and some sitting, kneeling, and walking. Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling will not normally exceed thirty (30) pounds, and will normally be in the area of ten (10) pounds. Must be able to move about the classroom and monitor students’ behavior. 

JOB DUTIES: • Is present at work every day and arrives at assigned time. • Demonstrates an attitude and demeanor that contributes to an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill in the workplace. • Has knowledge of state and federal laws relating to students with disabilities. • Conducts speech/language assessments, identifies needs, completes eligibilities, and prepares individualized education programs (IEP). • Plans therapy and uses appropriate diagnostic tools and therapy techniques to support the curriculum. • Provides consultative services to teachers, parents, administrators, and agencies in order to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom, other educational programs, and the home environment.  • Organizes caseloads, follow due process procedures and appropriately and accurately completes compliance paperwork • Maintains strict confidentially regarding all aspects of student information. • Assures placement of students in preventive, habilitative, and maintenance programs. • Functions as an active, productive, and integral member of the School Support Team. • Manages the behavior of learners to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process, and assists in the management of student behavior in other parts of the school and school grounds. • Works in a self-contained, team, departmental or itinerant capacity as assigned. • Maintains up-to-date and accurate student grade records and attendance records. • Ensures continuous communication with parents, both oral and written, to keep them informed of student progress and behavior. • Supports and/or participates in school-wide student activities, social events, and fundraisers. • Supervises paraprofessional, if applicable. • Participates in facility and professional meetings, educational conferences, and staff development opportunities. • Contributes to an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill in the workplace. • Meets performance and behavioral expectations of the principal and the special education director. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, or criminal activity for which the employee becomes aware. • Demonstrates an attitude and demeanor that contribute to an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill in the workplace among peers, staff, administrators, students, and parents. • Performs other duties as assigned.
