Summer Camp Arts Specialist

Arts Specialist & Camp Counselor

Sleepaway Summer Camp — Seasonal Position

 

Position Overview
We’re looking for creative, energetic, and responsible individuals to join our team as Arts Specialists & Camp Counselors. In this dynamic role, you’ll lead hands-on arts activities, inspire campers to explore their creativity, and help foster a warm, supportive camp community. This is a residential position (on-site housing is included) at a traditional sleepaway camp where enthusiasm, flexibility, and a passion for working with kids are essential.

 

Key Responsibilities Include…

 

Arts Instruction & Program Leadership

  • Teach and supervise arts activities such as drawing, painting, ceramics, crafts, woodworking, digital arts, performing arts, or mixed media (depending on your skills).
  • Develop age-appropriate projects that encourage creativity, skill-building, and confidence.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring arts space with all necessary materials and equipment.
  • Support camp-wide events like talent shows, art exhibitions, plays, or themed programs.

Camper Supervision & Cabin Life

  • Live in a bunk with a group of campers and serve as a positive, supportive mentor.
  • Oversee camper wellbeing, safety, and group dynamics throughout the day.
  • Participate enthusiastically in cabin routines, evening activities, and all-camp events.
  • Build meaningful connections with campers.

Teamwork & Camp Operations

  • Collaborate with fellow counselors, program directors, and leadership staff.
  • Assist with special events, themed days, and camp traditions.
  • Follow all camp policies, safety guidelines, and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Background or strong interest in visual arts, performing arts, crafts, or creative fields.
  • Experience working with children or leading creative programs preferred.
  • Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to live and work in a residential camp environment for 6–10 weeks.
  • Willingness to fully immerse yourself in camp life.
