- About the Program: The PEACE Internship Program (Pathways Encouraging Active Community Engagement) is a Minneapolis Police Department initiative that provides high school students with a paid internship experience focused on careers in public safety, law enforcement, and community service.
As part of its holistic development model, the program offers weekly Math Tutoring Sessions to help students build academic confidence and strengthen essential math skills.
- Position Overview: We are seeking passionate and experienced Math Tutors to provide individualized and small-group support for high school students in the PEACE Program. Tutors will assist students with math concepts ranging from foundational skills to advanced coursework, including Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus.
- Responsibilities:
- Conduct weekly in-person tutoring sessions (2 hours every Wednesday; aligned with the MPS academic calendar).
- Deliver engaging, standards-aligned math instruction tailored to each student’s skill level.
- Track and assess student progress using diagnostic and formative assessment tools.
- Collaborate with program coordinators to adjust lesson plans and pacing for measurable academic outcomes.
- Maintain a positive, supportive learning environment that fosters confidence and participation.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Prior experience tutoring or teaching high school mathematics.
- Strong understanding of Minnesota Academic Standards or Common Core math standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must pass a background check consistent with City of Minneapolis requirements.
