Development Trainer Instructor
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Administrator at MTC, develops and implements habilitative day training programs for assigned individuals, serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and supervises and trains team members in implementation of training programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a liaison between the day training program and the residential QIDP for assigned individuals.
- Communicates needs, progress, concerns of assigned individuals to appropriate staff.
- Serves as a productive member of the interdisciplinary team at staffings and other meetings that affect the development and progress of assigned individuals. Assist in the development and implementation of an individual habilitation program for assigned individuals as a result of these reviews.
- Develops, implements, and/or monitors, in consultation with the residential supervisor, behavioral development programs for assigned individuals.
- Develops and monitors daily lesson plans, activities and special events.
- Reviews and monitors programmatic documentation of individuals’ progress on an ongoing basis.
- Together with the team members and Assistant Administrator, develops meaningful and various community experiences and resources for individual participation, including all day excursions.
- Supervises staff in the instructional/training sessions including documentation procedures, daily report, etc.
- Evaluates staff on an annual basis or as needed if job performance warrants more frequent review.

- Assist team leaders with the supervision of team members. This includes evaluations, program observations and disciplinary actions.
- Completes Quality Assurance checks of the classrooms.
- Notifies Assistant Administrator of emergencies or unusual situations that may arise.
- Completes all necessary assessments and evaluations for individuals.
- Be an active participant in the classroom teaching and training on an ongoing basis.
- Functions as a supervisor-on-duty (SOD).
- Assists with any emergency situation promptly and is knowledgeable of locations and use of fire extinguishers, door alarm systems, and disaster procedures.
- Functions as an Assistant Trainer in Crisis Management (CPI) classes and as an instructor at other Habilitation Training Classes.
- Able to intervene physically in behavioral or health-related crises.
- Incompliance with Milestone, Inc.’s philosophy and policies regarding Human Rights, intervenes on behalf of the individual(s) served and reports to the appropriate agency (OIG, IDPH) and/or supervisor.
- Monitors individuals new ISPs for content and ongoing changes.
- Ensure staff is trained on the content and change of ISPs, are involved in Active Treatment of the individuals and ensure staff are aware of the purpose of the program.
- Assists with supervision of all staff in disciplinary action and other assigned personnel duties.
- Proposes policies, procedures and program suggestions to the Assistant Administrator for approval.
- Assist with Human Rights Investigations as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Bachelor’s degree in special education, elementary education or other educational field of therapeutic value: P.E., Music, Recreation, et or a bachelor’s degree in related field by having job/field experience in the area of developmental disabilities.
- Minimum 2 years of experience supervising staff in Human Services settings.
- Clean driving record and an approved Milestone driver.
- One year of experience in program development and writing.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
