IT System Operations Intern
Ascot’s Summer Internship Program offers a unique opportunity to learn about the insurance industry within a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment. While the internship is primarily focused on IT, interns will gain exposure to a wide range of functional areas across the company, including IT, claims, underwriting, partnership engagement, reinsurance, legal and compliance, actuarial, and operations. Interns will engage in hands-on learning, collaborate with experienced insurance professionals, and develop a comprehensive understanding of how these departments work together to assess risk and deliver client solutions.
IT: System Operations Intern
A Day in the Life of an IT Intern May Include:
- Implementing modules in applicable system technology
- Building JSON or XML scripts for data transfer; communicating with the data warehouse
- Integrating with a third-party API for external data ingestion
- Assisting with troubleshooting production system issues using database SQL queries
- Shadowing IT specialists during system maintenance and troubleshooting
- Supporting software deployment and testing applications or scripts
- Joining meetings with other departments to understand IT’s role in supporting business operations
- Participating in ascend learning activities and training sessions
A Successful IT Intern Has:
- Preferred majors: IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or other related fields
- Expected undergraduate graduation year: 2028
- 0-2 years of working experience
- Active involvement in student organizations, campus initiatives, or leadership roles
Essential Skills and Competencies:
- Exposure to IT systems and database concepts
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle
- Strong analytical thinking to assess risks, interpret data, and contribute to IT projects
- Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with teams
- Effective time management and organizational skills to support multiple projects
