Time Commitment: January 21, 2026 - September 11, 2026

This is a full-time, 7.5-month, 1200-hour program from January 21 - September 11, 2026. Fellows commit to a 40-hour work week, typically Monday - Friday, approximately 8am - 5pm, with occasional evening and weekend commitments based on project needs. 120-240 of these hours are dedicated to professional development. 

**Please note: Due to the full-time commitment of the Program, students enrolled in undergraduate courses between Jan 21, 2026 - Sep 11, 2026 will not be eligible to participate in the California Climate Action Corps Program.

About the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship

The California Climate Action Corps has over 20 positions available across California for the 2025-26 CCAC Fellowship. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders. These are paid, full-time fellowships—similar to internships—but with 120-240 dedicated hours for professional development and training while receiving hands-on experience in the climate field.

CCAC Fellows are matched with organizations across California to mobilize communities to take direct climate action and lead projects focused on wildfire resiliency, urban greening, and organic waste diversion and edible food recovery.

Program Benefits

As an Outdoor Environmental Educator at Aldama Elementary School, you’ll engage directly with a vibrant bilingual and predominantly Spanish-speaking community, building valuable experience in cross-cultural communication and community connection. The role offers hands-on opportunities to mentor youth from transitional kindergarten through 5th grade, while strengthening skills in education and youth development. Educators will expand their professional networks through partnerships with local environmental nonprofits, city agencies, and LAUSD divisions, and gain meaningful insight into LAUSD’s Community Schools initiative. Collaboration with the Aldama Green Team—a dedicated school greening volunteer organization—will further enrich this experience and amplify your impact. Other benefits include:

• Receive up to $24,882.35 stipend (before taxes) distributed evenly over the 7.5-month service term
• Receive $5,176.50 Segal Education Award (before taxes and upon completion of 1200 hours)

Description of Duties

Aldama Elementary School invites passionate changemakers to help cultivate the next generation of environmental stewards. Rooted in a commitment to high-quality, culturally relevant bilingual education, this role uplifts Aldama’s mission by centering environmental sustainability, community partnership, and student empowerment. Outdoor Environmental Educators will help bring to life a student-driven compost and edible food recovery program, support campus greening through the Aldama Master Greening Plan, and co-create place-based climate education in collaboration with teachers and local partners. Educators will advance Aldama’s dual-language mission by developing bilingual curriculum and interpretive materials, deepening engagement with Spanish-speaking families, and fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility toward the natural world. Through hands-on education and inclusive community events, this role contributes to a more climate-resilient campus and an inspired, empowered school community. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Facilitate student-led environmental education programs including composting and waste diversion, with a focus on urban greening spaces
• Design bilingual, culturally relevant curriculum and signage aligned with NGSS and project-based learning that highlights climate resilience, native plants, and sustainable practices
• Lead climate-focused community engagement events—such as greening days and school-wide garden projects—in partnership with students, families, and local organizations
• Strengthen communication and participation from Spanish-speaking families by providing accessible materials and hosting inclusive educational experiences
• Collaborate with teachers and environmental partners to integrate hands-on, outdoor learning opportunities that reflect the values and vision of the Aldama Master Greening Plan
• Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact

Minimum Program Eligibility Requirements

• Live in California by January 5, 2026
• Be at least 18 years of age by January 5, 2026
• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

Experience in Community Outreach, Composting, Edible Food Recovery, Engaging with K-12 students, Environmental Education, Environmental Justice/Equity, Habitat Restoration, Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration, Native Plant Management, Project Management, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Tree Planting/Care, and Volunteer Management & Engagement. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. Other valuable contributions include:

• An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service
• Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change
• Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities
• Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills

About Aldama Elementary School

Aldama Elementary is a Title 1, UTK-5th grade elementary school with a Spanish Dual Language Immersion program. Aldama is located in Highland Park, Los Angeles. The Aldama Green Team is a community volunteer organization that collaborates with school administration to support campus greening, beautification, and environmental literacy and advocacy within the student and greater Aldama community.
