Research Assistant

Position Description:

The Task Force for Democracy is looking for an unpaid (academic credit available) Research Assistant to work alongside the Advocacy Coordinator to conduct legislative and academic research to develop reports on behalf of the Task Force for Democracy regarding threats to our voting rights. As a Research Assistant, you will play a key role in gathering, analyzing and presenting research to the team which informs our advocacy efforts. In this role, you will work closely with the Advocacy Coordinator and other key members of our leadership team.

The ideal research assistant is self-driven, understands the intersection of the fight for our democracy with other issues & identities (climate justice, access to healthcare, education, etc), and knows the role students and youth need to play in championing systems that represent us.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting in-depth research on upcoming and ongoing threats to Democracy, and analyzing strategies for how we can oppose them.
  • Researching key decision makers, including legislators and administration officials on the state and federal level for who we can liaise with on issues.
  • Assisting in writing and presenting reports, briefs, and research summaries for internal use and external communication.
  • Collaborate with the advocacy team to ensure that research findings are integrated into strategic planning and campaign efforts.
  • Help maintain organized databases of research materials, ensuring easy access and use by the advocacy team.
  • Other tasks as assigned by organizational leadership.

Requirements:

  • Capacity to work 10 hours/week on the above responsibilities.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and present it in an accessible manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the context of political research and advocacy.
  • Willingness to learn & grow as a researcher and team member.
  • Demonstrated initiative, ability to problem solve, and respond to a rapidly changing landscape.

Additional Information:

  • The Research Assistant reports to the Advocacy Coordinator of The Task Force.
  • This position is based in Washington, D.C., with remote accommodations available.
