Position Overview: Haviland Middle School, part of the Hyde Park Central School District, is seeking a dynamic, student-centered elementary certified teacher for an anticipated full-time leave replacement vacancy with a tentative assignment in 6th grade. We are looking for an enthusiastic educator who fosters a nurturing learning environment, builds strong relationships with students and families, and demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence and the social-emotional growth of every learner.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards

Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment

Use data to assess student progress and adjust instruction as needed

Collaborate with grade-level team members, support staff, and administrators

Communicate effectively with families and caregivers

Participate in school and district professional development and initiatives

Qualifications:

Valid New York State Certification in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6)

Demonstrated understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for elementary/middle school learners

Experience with or willingness to learn and implement research-based instructional strategies, including Responsive Classroom, guided reading, and balanced literacy approaches

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education

Preferred Qualifications:

Math/science experience is preferred

Prior classroom teaching experience at the elementary level

Familiarity with NYS assessments and curriculum

Ability to integrate technology meaningfully into instruction
