App Developer

Description

I’m building a new college-based social app that helps students make friends and find spontaneous activities—without awkwardness or embarrassment. Imagine a combination of Hinge/Tinder-style matching and a campus activity feed, but designed entirely for friendship, studying, workouts, and casual meetups, not dating.

The core idea: students anonymously post what they want to do (grab food, study a specific class, hit the gym, play pickup sports, etc.), others “like” the activity, and both parties confirm before chatting. It’s a safer, lower-pressure way to initiate plans and meet people on campus.

I'm hiring a developer to help build the MVP—and the right person will also have the opportunity to join as a long-term partner or technical co-founder.

About Me

I’m a Georgetown student majoring in Psychology with a Business minor, and I’ve founded two startups already. My current company, Recap, hosts large-scale events for college students and is actively expanding to new campuses (including UMD). I’ve built a strong understanding of:

  • College social dynamics
  • Human behavior and motivation (from my psych background)
  • Brand-building and scaling student-facing ventures (from my startup experience)
  • Campus marketing and distribution

This new app directly leverages everything I’ve learned about how students actually socialize, what makes friendships form, and what barriers prevent people from putting themselves out there. I also have existing campus networks and distribution channels through Recap that will give this app immediate traction.

Role & Responsibilities

You’ll work with me to build the initial MVP, including:

  • User onboarding + school email verification
  • Profile creation
  • Calendar-style feed of anonymous activity posts
  • Matching flow (like → accept → double-confirm)
  • In-app chat
  • Backend + database setup (Firebase or whatever you prefer)
  • Clean, swipe-based UI inspired by dating apps

You’ll have significant creative and technical input. This is a chance to build something from zero and put it in the hands of real users immediately.

Ideal Candidate

You’re someone who:

  • Has strong experience in mobile development (Flutter, React Native, Swift, or Kotlin)
  • Can handle both frontend and backend (or is eager to learn)
  • Understands modern, clean UX
  • Is interested in social apps, psychology, or campus culture
  • Wants meaningful startup experience
  • Might be open to becoming a technical co-founder

Compensation

  • Up to $2,000 for the MVP build
  • Equity / Co-Founder option for the right candidate
  • Flexible work, strong ownership, real startup impact
