YOUR FUTURE TEAM
As part of TCEQ's Office of Legal Services, you would assist attorneys who ensure that commission decisions follow the law, and that the rules we develop comply with statutory authority and are applied consistently. See details about what we do.
This position is in the General Law Division.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Under the direction of the General Law Division, conduct routine paralegal services and assist attorneys in the Office of Legal Services (OLS) of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Research and analyze routine relevant statutes, rules, cases, legal articles, and legislative documents and assist in the preparation of various administrative and legal documents.
Communicate and coordinate with various interests, including legislators, citizens, regulated entities, and other agencies concerning permitting, enforcement, open records, and other legal issues.
Assemble and maintain trail notebooks, templates, and various other legal files.
Assist attorneys in all phases of hearing preparation and presentation of cases.
Coordinate responses to public information requests, subpoenas, and other inquiries and information requests.
Plan, prepare, and oversee the preparation of periodic and special reports.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
One year of full-time experience as a legal assistant or in paralegal work.
OR
Certification from a legal assistant or paralegal program.
OR
A degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in legal studies, or a related field.
OR
Completion of one year of law school.
**Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

WORK SCHEDULE
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ General Law Division.
