Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

DJJ is currently hiring a Family Engagement Advocate. This role will develop a coordinated system of services and linkages to community resources that enable youth transitioning from correctional facilities to attain their re-entry goals and become resilient, responsible members of the community.

This is a position serving multiple locations in the Central Region (Henrico, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and Lynchburg).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of current theoretical and applied models of family engagement and transition for incarcerated youth.
     
  • Knowledge of the role of transition-related legislation and policies in the fields of rehabilitation, labor, and civil rights.
     
  • Knowledge of individual and group therapy practices.
     
  • Skilled in developing, interpreting, and applying policies and procedures within prescribed limits and parameters
     
  • Skilled in developing model systems through interagency collaboration
     
  • Skilled in effective oral and written communication.
     
  • Skilled in using basic computer software programs and database packages as management tools
     
  • Ability to conduct and interpret family functional assessments.
     
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of families from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds.
     
  • Ability to define problems and assess, organize, and lead complex projects.
     
  • Ability to analyze related and unrelated situations to draw conclusions and devise innovative solutions, alternatives, and recommendations.
     
  • Licensed Professional Counselor and/ or Licensed Clinical Worker.
