POSTION:                 Special Education Teacher 

LOCATION:             Hillcrest Elementary School   

REPORTS TO:         Dr. Kathy Konowalow, Building Principal

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education        

Highly Qualified - Special Education K-12th grade – EI, CI, SLD or ASD Endorsement

Meet requirements for background check and fingerprinting

 

Job Requirements, Knowledge, and Skills:
A successful candidate will possess:

  • Successful experience working with school students with disabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of content expectations/standards pertinent to the grade level and subject areas taught
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional/behavioral strategies for students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of writing compliant IEPs and implementation of individual student plans
  • Ability to complete all required documentation with quality and in a timely manner
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with classroom teachers and work as part of a team
  • Medicaid billing experience and able to collaborate with ancillary services such as SSW, OT, PT and S&L

 

A successful candidate will be able to:

  • Relate to and instruct students to make progress with IEP goals in large and small groups, and individualized settings
  • Develop and use strategies to improve student achievement in all core content areas
  • Work with students to increase motivation, provide consistent reinforcement to learning and behavior, and continuously assess students’ level of functioning
  • Plan curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students, while considering state requirements, as well as physical and emotional development
  • Contribute to a professional learning team
  • Successfully communicate with parents regarding student progress on IEP goals
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to facilitate accommodations for students with disabilities to gain access to general education curriculum
