Overview of NCH Membership: The National Coalition for the Homeless is a membership-based organization. Our Membership comprises a diverse community of advocates who believe in our mission to end homelessness. Currently, we have over 300 members, and we support and collaborate with a network of individuals and organizations. As we continue to grow the movement, we want to nurture a safe and inclusive space for everyone to feel at home here at NCH. As a public policy and advocacy group, we believe in working together to face injustice while providing each other with knowledge and solutions. Networking and sharing expertise & resources is a vital part of our movement.

Internship Position Title: NCH Membership Intern
Internship Position Summary: The Membership Internship will be a remote position. This individual will work with the Membership Coordinator to further the mission of the National Coalition for the Homeless. The intern will support the department with data entry and program maintenance, as well as assist with recruitment and outreach efforts. The intern will assist the Membership Coordinator in organizing special events for Membership engagement, as well as taking minutes for Membership-related meetings. The intern will also support the Membership Committee in monthly meetings and project endeavors that will enhance our Membership program. The Membership intern will occasionally work alongside other NCH Staff Members and become familiar with the other departments and facets of the organization. The intern will also work closely with the Bring America Home NOW Campaign Team to mobilize our collective network in organizing direct actions. We work directly with unhoused individuals, advocates with lived experience, and organizations that support our unhoused neighbors. An ideal candidate for this position is someone who has a passion for helping others and believes in the work we are doing to support unhoused communities. We are seeking someone passionate, practical, and proactive, with a warm and inviting personality to match.
Position Activities and Assignments:
● Support the Membership Coordinator in the Membership Accounting Process. ● Contact Members directly to ensure they are accurately accounted for and provide their updated contact information for our records.
● Support the Membership Committee in engagement-related activities/events ● Serve as a backup in notating Membership-related meeting minutes
● Assist the Membership Coordinator and the BAHN Team in outreach,
communication, and recruitment efforts to attract new members/partners. ● Share creative concepts and ideas to enhance our Membership program. ● Support our valued Members in a compassionate and uplifting manner, modeling the example provided by our esteemed Staff Members.
● Perform any additional assignments organized by the NCH Membership Coordinator
Required Skills:
● Excellent communication and customer service skills
● Ability to work remotely and without daily supervision
● Ability to take meeting minutes via desktop or laptop computer
● Experience utilizing and maintaining Excel-related programs
● Comprehensive writing and interpersonal skills
Preferred Experiences:
● Direct service with homeless/low-income populations
● Experience in writing high-level research papers
● Experience in digital and social media writing.
