Policy Research Intern

Founded in 1995, Sutherland Institute is an independent research and educational institution – a think tank – whose mission is to equip Americans to advance principled public policy that promotes the constitutional values of faith, family and freedom. Sutherland is a nonpartisan, nonprofit and tax-exempt organization. We rely on support from individuals, corporations and foundations that share a commitment to faith, family and free markets. 

Job summary: 

A policy research internship at Sutherland Institute is a 20-hour-per-week, paid position. Policy research interns conduct research on relevant public policy issues under the supervision of Sutherland Institute’s policy fellows. The internship will run through the semester beginning in January 2026. 

Job duties include: 

  • Quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis in policy areas such as education policy, religious freedom and family policy
  • Assisting fellows in producing written and visual content based on policy research
  • Assisting with events or legislative efforts as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Interest in public policy and/or non-profit organizations
  • Interest in making a career in public policy research
  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills

Hours per week: Flexible, 20 hrs/week 

Wage/salary: This is a paid internship based on experience and availability 

Location: Sutherland’s office is located in downtown Salt Lake City. The combination of in-office and remote work for policy research interns will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
