Floating Substitute Teacher

Floating/Substitute Teacher & Van Driver (Part-Time)


Minneapolis, MN | $18–$25/hour (based on experience) | Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Make a lasting impact in the lives of inner-city youth!


Hospitality House Youth Development (HHYD) is seeking a reliable and caring
Floating/Substitute Teacher & Van Driver to support our Urban Learning Center (ULC)
after-school programs. This dual position plays an important role in providing both instructional coverage and safe transportation for students in grades K–9. If you have a heart for youth, a passion for service, and a commitment to Christian values, we’d

About HHYD


Hospitality House Youth Development provides Christian outreach focused on the spiritual,
intellectual, and physical development of inner-city youth and their families. Through
after-school and summer programs, we help students grow academically, socially, and spiritually in a safe and faith-centered environment.


Position Overview


As a Floating/Substitute Teacher & Van Driver, you’ll ensure program consistency by
stepping into classrooms as needed across grade levels and safely transporting students to and from the program site. You’ll help students thrive academically, build character, and deepen their relationship with Christ all while maintaining a positive, structured, and nurturing environment.


Key Responsibilities


Classroom Coverage & Instruction
● Facilitate classroom activities and lessons based on existing plans and curriculum.
● Support students’ spiritual growth and encourage Christ-centered conversations.
● Maintain classroom order, positivity, and engagement aligned with HHYD’s mission.
● Provide homework help and academic support across subject areas.
● Communicate with lead teachers and staff about student progress or concerns.
● Reinforce behavioral expectations and guide students in character development.

● Provide feedback on instructional needs when covering extended periods.


Transportation


● Safely drive HHYD vans to transport students between designated locations.
● Perform daily vehicle safety checks and report any maintenance issues.
● Maintain appropriate student behavior and safety during transport.
● Adhere to all traffic laws and organizational safety procedures.
● Collaborate with staff to coordinate transportation routes and schedules.


Qualifications


● Strong alignment with HHYD’s Christian mission and Statement of Faith.
● Flexibility to adapt to different classrooms and age groups.
● Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
● Bachelor’s degree preferred; teaching or youth work experience highly valued.
● Valid driver’s license required; must be 25+ with a clean driving record.
● Reliable, compassionate, and eager to make a positive impact.
