Administrative Intern
The Environmental Management Group in the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks is hiring two (2) Administrative Interns to support the Group’s activities.
The preferred minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s Degree or progress towards a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Geography, Earth Sciences or related environmental degree programs. Skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and database management are highly valued.
The Administrative Intern position is a part time position and entails a maximum of 1,000 hours per year and typically 20 hours per week.
As an Administrative Intern with the Environmental Management Group in the Planning, Construction and Maintenance Branch of the Department of Recreation and Park, the Intern has the opportunity to work alongside members of the group involving various aspects of the tasks performed by the group.
An Admin. Intern will perform the following kinds of tasks and duties:
1. Reviewing various environmental reports for content in order to file the reports in our environmental databases;
2. Assist in filing legal documents for environmental evaluations under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA);
3. Assist in preparing and submitting various environmental permit applications and annual reports both online and in hard copies;
4. Assist in preparing and compiling environmental documents, including maps and graphics;
5. Researching environmental issues online to assist the Environmental Specialists and Environmental Supervisor;
6. Assist in various field studies to help collect data observe environmental compliance requirements;
7. Assist Environmental Specialist/s and Environmental Supervisor with meeting regulatory compliance deadlines, inventory-taking, filing, reporting, and payments.
8. Visiting Recreation and Parks facilities to post signage, site visits, job walks, project meetings, and make observations/determinations on compliance.
9. Participate in various meetings as a member of the project team to observe the dynamics of project development and associated environmental issues;
10. Attend the Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners and the City Council to observe City government processes and decision making;
11. Attend the Group Staff meetings to observe and participate in project discussions and assignments;
