Design and Project Management Intern

Masa Modern Homes, a residential design and build firm, is seeking a Design and Project Management Intern/Associate to assist our Principle and Lead Designer in various tasks to gain hands-on experience through creating mood boards and design presentations, sourcing, tracking, onsite management, and assisting in day-to-day office duties.  Looking for an undergraduate interior design student or recent graduates looking for an opportunity to contribute to an engaging and creative environment while developing their skills in a professional atmosphere. The role provides an opportunity to develop skills in design selections, project management, and client communication. Interns gain exposure to the entire design and build process, from initial concept development through project execution. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Design Support (40%) 

Create mood boards, source materials/samples, and prepare design presentations.

Draft sketches or 2D elevations/renderings using design software like AutoCAD or SketchUp. 

Conduct research on materials and furnishings that are project specific and gather samples.

Handle administrative tasks as needed. 

 

Project Coordination (35%) 

Assist with project documentation through tracking shipments, materials and deadlines. 

Check in and inventory materials.

Bring materials to jobsites. 

Keep organized Google Drive folders for each project. 

 

On-Site Work (20%)

Participate in site visits to take measurements, observe projects, and ensure designs are practical and feasible. 

Prepare partners and sub-contractors with the necessary information for a seamless installation. 

Give direction on design elevations to ensure they are carrying out the integrity of the design (i.e. tile patterns, faucet & lighting locations).

 

Client Interaction (5%)

Attend client meetings, take notes, and prepare presentations to help convey design concepts and visions. 

Use their knowledge of vendor timelines and the design process to anticipate project needs.

When needed, coordinate and/or attend client, contractor, sub-contractor, and other representative meetings as well as occasionally attend on site meetings with contractors, taking and storing detailed notes.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Interior Design Student or Graduate preferred. Open to other creative majors applying with proven interior design experience.  

Required computer skills include Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. Knowledge of Sketchup, Revit and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus. 

Must possess strong analytical thinking skills, attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Must be self-starter and eager to participate in all aspects of design process, including the not so exciting tasks such as tracking and delivery materials to job sites. 

Candidates are expected to be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
