About the Office:
The Office of Communications and Marketing is dedicated to advancing the university’s reputation. Staff members support the institution’s mission and goals, promote its successes and achievements, inform and engage its stakeholders, and ensure the integrity of its brand. We craft audience-focused communications based on data, best practices, and emerging trends. The division comprises several cross-functional teams, employing professionals with expertise in design, development, video production, content strategy, feature writing, editing, marketing, media relations, internal communication, and special events.
About the VOLinternship Program:
The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run for the duration of one academic semester. About the Internship:
The Office of Communications and Marketing seeks a creative, detail-oriented student to join our team as an executive communications intern. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain skills in executive communications strategy, content creation, social media management, and news writing while contributing to a collaborative work environment staffed with talented experts in graphic design, public relations, photography, videography, brand marketing and other communications-specific functional areas. The executive communications intern is an in-person position and will work closely with the digital executive communications coordinator to support the work of the team. Primary responsibilities for this position will be writing-heavy, including drafting content for UT websites, public remarks, LinkedIn, and campus newsletters, among other platforms.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Gain experience with a variety of public relations tools, including Asana, Emma, SharePoint, and WordPress.
- Write first drafts of website posts, newsletter blurbs, PowerPoint presentations, and Employee Hub updates
- Write first drafts of remarks, scripts and talking points, including information gathering and organization
- Develop content for social media
- Assist in drafting content, building, and tracking performance for newsletters
- Communications research
- Assist with building content calendar and/or communications plan
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely
- Ability to organize and prioritize information for talking points and presentations
- Ability to speak effectively and conduct interviews
- Ability to conduct research
- Experience developing content for target audiences or a strong interest in learning about them
