DeVos Intern Museum Collections & Education

The Collections & Education Intern at the DeVos Art Museum is responsible for supporting the efforts of museum staff. Interns will assist and learn to perform tasks assigned by staff. They will have the chance to participate in various activities, gaining hands-on experience and valuableinsight into the day-to-day operations of a university art museum across several areas.

 

Projects and duties assigned to the intern include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting content researchand assisting with the development of K-12 education programs
  • Facilitating visitor education about exhibitions and collections
  • Developing and giving exhibition tours for thegeneral public
  • Assisting with trainingvolunteer docents for K-12 education tours
  • Creating, organizing, and updating collection files, provenance research, and collection image files within the database
  • Compiling and updatingbiographical information for artistfiles
  • Assisting Collections Curatorwith data entry of new acquisitions, cataloging museum collections, and researching collections-related topics
  • Supporting special programsand events, as needed
  • Working at the Museum's front desk
  • Exhibition installation; including handling and hanging artwork, creating labels; packing and unpacking art, and conditionreporting and documentation.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

 

The desirable candidate will have specificcharacteristics and be able to fulfill all duties assigned. Candidate qualifications include:

  • Basic knowledge of art objectsand materials
  • Comfort handling fragileobjects
  • Ability to work with diversegroups or independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization skillsand flexibility
  • Ability to conductin-depth and scholarlyresearch
  • Desire to learn about art and museum practices
  • Dependable and will show up on time
  • Must be detail-oriented
