DOI Internship Program

Internships - Department of Investigation

Hope this email finds you well. I’m excited to share that registration for our Spring Internship Program is now open.

Students in law school interested in internships within law enforcement are encouraged to apply.

DOI accommodates interns’ interviewing needs with respect to pre-OCI and OCI, including providing time and space for their interview process, accommodating their interview schedules and providing them with access to DOI staff who are available to discuss their own experiences in both government and private practice.

The Department of Investigation is New York City’s independent Inspector General, and we investigate corruption, fraud, waste and abuse in New York City government, vendors who deal with the City and anyone receiving City benefits.  We work jointly with federal and local prosecutors, and other law enforcement partners, including the FBI, on criminal cases, and we make recommendations to City agencies for policy and procedural reforms that can close corruption vulnerabilities.  We have a General Counsel’s office, as well as investigative squads staffed with investigators and lawyers who handle our casework.

Because our internships are conducted in person and require students to be actively enrolled in school, we are only able to accept students who are attending school locally during the fall and spring sessions.  However, our summer program offers more flexibility. Since most students are not in school during the summer, we are able to consider applications from students across the country and internationally.  Registration for our Summer 2026 internship program will open January 8th.

Once registration opens, the first step will be for applicants to register through our portal, Internships - Department of Investigation. As part of that process, they'll need to submit a few documents: a transcript, resume, cover letter, and a writing sample.

If you have any questions, or if you'd like to connect or if there are other students who might be interested, we’re always happy to work with you.
