Summary: Elementary School Special Education Teachers are responsible for instructing students in an elementary school. They create lesson plans and a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program. Additionally, Special Education Teachers are responsible for monitoring, planning, direction, and revision of student’s Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
 
Primary Responsibilities:  

 

  • Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.
  • Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities in whole group, small group and 1:1 situations
  • Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
  • Monitor student growth and progress, adapt support as needed, and maintain documentation pertinent to academic, social, and emotional progress and needs of students.
  • Utilize various curriculum resources.
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions.
  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.
  • Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare and distribute required reports.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
  • Maintain grade books.
  • Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Create projects designed to enhance lectures.
  • Develop incentives to keep participants in class.
  • Communicate students’ progress, and needs with parents/guardians and other staff as needed.
  • Planning literacy and math curriculum and instruction
  • Monitor, plan, direct, and revise IEPs as well as participate in IEP meetings
  • Any and all other duties as assigned 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a Special Education Generalist teaching certification is preferred. 
  • Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a Colorado Teaching License. The Weld Re-9 School District is considers and advises candidates pursuing or considering alternative pathways to the classroom.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $49,250-$64,750 per year depending on education, years of teaching experience, and professional development credits.  This amount will be prorated depending on start date relative to the number of contract days left in the school year (for example, with a start date of November 17, there would be 112 (of 184) contract days remaining in the 2025-2026 school year, so the prorated salary range would be $29,978.26-$39,413.04 for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year.
