Dance & Movement Intern
This internship is part of the Schwartz Community Based Internships. This premier opportunity allows UR undergraduate students to access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace. If selected, students will receive a $5,000 stipend over a minimum 270-hour period in a non-for-profit organization in the Rochester, NY region.

Internship Description:
Please note, this Internship is in partnership with 2 community organizations. This position will require teaching dance classes to older adults as well as working with Mt. Hope Family Center as a music/dance instructor for the PATHS Program and Oasis Rochester – Lifetime Learning.
The PATHS Program is a clinical intervention designed to build social skills and emotion identity and development with children ages 3-11 from the city of Rochester and Monroe County. Counselors work directly with the children developing and implementing the PATHS skills and problem solving any needs that may arise.
Oasis Rochester – Lifelong Adventure has served more than 10,000 people in the Finger Lakes area and over 360,000 nationwide. Membership is free and open to anyone 50 and up in Rochester and surrounding counties. We offer a broad range of stimulating educational classes – from the arts and humanities to wellness, fitness and travel. Interns will teach a variety of dance classes two days a week for elder community members.
Dance & Movement Intern
This multi-faceted internship will include partnering with community organizations, mentored teaching opportunities with UR Program of Dance& Movement faculty. With direction from the community partners, the intern will teach movement classes for a variety of ages. To support the teaching process, interns will have guidance and regular check-ins with Dance Program faculty.

June 22-August 14, 2025
Daily 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Qualifications:
• Dance/Movement experience
• Some prior teaching or leadership experience (or taken pedagogy classes)
• Enjoyment of working/moving with elders and grade-school students
• Enthusiastic and motivated individuals
• Reliable and timely
• Passionate about improving the lives of children and families; specifically through building strong and positive relationships with children and, serving as a role model for positive social and emotional skills
• Interest in psychology, social work, counseling or other related human service field
• Dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as well as promoting anti-racist perspectives
