Frederick County Public Libraries Development & Fundraising Internship
Time commitment: 10-20 hours/week; flexible scheduling, remote work possible

• Fall: September through December
• Spring: February through May

FCPL is a modern mid-sized public library system in Maryland that provides essential services and resources to Frederick County residents. The Development Department supports the advancement of FCPL and enables the library to offer the best possible library programs, services, and spaces to the people in our community.
About the internship:
We aim to provide college students with valuable mentoring and hands-on experience, bridging the classroom and workplace. Interns play an integral part in the library’s development program and the advancement of public libraries by supporting staff in their daily activities and special projects. In addition, interns will gain insight into the world of development and fundraising and will build practical skills broadly applicable to business, marketing, and communications.
Internship expectations for the scope of work:
Based on your interests and the library’s needs, the internship schedule and learning objectives will be agreed upon before your start date. Some internship work will occur at the library during regular business hours, 8 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday. Some may be completed remotely and during evening and weekend hours.
Benefits:
The library will offer interns a stipend of $500 per semester, paid upon completion of assigned projects. Interns are encouraged to use the internship experience for academic credit.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Assist in the production of fundraising communications, including email and direct mail
• Create development-focused social media content
• Communicate with donors via phone and email and complete contact reports
• Conducting nonprofit market research
• Assist in grant research and writing
• Assist with planning, management, and execution of donor engagement events
• Additional research and administrative support as requested
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
• College student with an exemplary academic record majoring in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or a related field.
• Self-starter capable of working independently
• Excellent customer service skills and comfortable working with the public
• Well-organized and detail-oriented
• Strong writing and editing skills
• General computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
