Poetry @ VOX ATL Near Peer Intern - Spring 2026

VOX ATL welcomes applicants to apply to serve as a spring semester near-peer intern to support our out-of-school programming. Poets at VOX ATL will be able to meet to discuss craft, performing, and the business of poetry. Interns will have the opportunity to co-facilitate workshops, peer edit teens’ content, support program evaluation, create a welcoming VOXy environment, connect with and engage participants, and continue to develop their own professional leadership skills.

This role is ideal for someone who is looking to continue to build their own poetry skills while providing mentorship and support to others doing the same. This role is great for those who enjoy working collaboratively in an intergenerational environment and enjoy being a part of a project from start to finish. 

Responsibilities:

  • Help develop agendas and facilitate poetry workshops for teen poets. 
  • Create and maintain a VOXy safe and welcoming environment that upholds VOX ATL values and helps participants to feel free to use their voice.
  • Maintain weekly contact with teen members to encourage and support their creative expression by helping them hone their craft, structure their poems, and line edit their work. 
  • Produce three poems for publication (option to include multimedia component/s (video, audio, interactive!)
  • Participate in weekly intern planning meetings and co-facilitate regular poetry meetings to create poetry for VOX ATL and to prepare interested participants to apply to be the Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate. 
  • Support the development and follow-through of program evaluation to ensure that Poetry @ VOX ATL meets its goals, and help support VOX programming. 
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to program participants
  • Continually develop your own creative expression skills across various media.
  • Collaborate with VOX ATL Teen Interns to plan and carry out the end-of-semester showcase.


 

Schedule & Compensation:

  • This is a semester-long internship (January - May) and will end on the final day of programming. This position averages 10 hours per week.

    • Poetry @ VOX ATL interns must be able to attend weekly program sessions held every Thursday and regular Saturday sessions. 
    • Key Dates Include:
      • Intern Training (Understanding your role, ambassadorship, media skills, peer editing, and mentorship) - Tues. Jan. 6 thru Thurs. Jan 8 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (in-person at the VOX ATL office). 
      • VOX ATL Spring Open House - Sat. Jan. 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (Interns arrive at 11:30 a.m.)
      • Weekly Intern Meetings - Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (In-person)
      • Poetry @ VOX ATL meetings - Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 
      • VOX ATL Adult Spelling Bee - Thurs. March 26
      • 2026 Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate Open Mic & Commencement - Thurs. April 30 
      • VOX-a-Palooza (Spring Showcase) - May 9 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Location TBD)
      • Intern Close Out - May 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Dinner provided.)
      • Additional scheduling will be coordinated with the poetry & program team.
  • This position will require in-person leadership, so the intern should be able to work from the VOX ATL office, which is located in Downtown Atlanta at Peachtree Center. (We provide MARTA passes and validate parking.)
  • You will track your time using VOX’s time-tracking process (Gusto); compensation is $10/hour for up to 10 hours per week.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be 18-23 years old and must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must have experience in creating and performing poetry, either through VOX ATL or elsewhere. Applicants must be willing to support positive youth development and principles of power-sharing.
